Donna Killen Obituary

Donna Ruth Killen (Dunn)

1946 – 2018

Donna died unexpectedly on August 19, 2018. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Lakewood, Ohio on June 8, 1946, she grew up in Bay Village, Ohio. Donna graduated from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio with a degree in dietetics in 1968 and received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Phillips Theological Seminary in 2009.

Donna married her college sweetheart, Dave Killen, on April 20, 1968. She was pleased to relocate to Conifer, CO in 1987 after living in Denton, TX for many years. Donna enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, and walking with and caring for her dogs. Over the years, she actively supported Disciples’ House, an urban ministry in central London, and Tennyson Center for Children. She also held leadership positions at Evergreen Christian Church, CRMR, and Phillips Theological Seminary.

Her desire to nurture pastors and lay people led her and Dave to co-found and run A Mountain Retreat with their longtime friends, Reverend Victor and Lynette Hunter. Donna’s gift of hospitality for all who stayed there exemplified her ministry and who she was as a person.

Above all, Donna loved her family and friends. Surviving loved ones include her husband of 50 years, Dave; her son and “daughter-in-love”: Doug and Anne Scalf of Keller TX; son and daughter-in-law: John and Liza of Truckee CA; three granddaughters she absolutely adored: Aiyana, Riley, and Reese; sister Barbara Dever of Thornton PA; and too many friends and extended family members to list.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Edith Pierce and Sandra Honney.

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Corinthians 13:13

She got that right.

A celebration of her life will be held at Evergreen Christian Church at 27772 Iris Dr, Evergreen, CO on Saturday, September 15th at 11 am. RSVP at
