Our Keynote Speakers will be our current General Minister and President, Rev. Teresa “Terri” Hord Owens along with our Executive Regional Minister, Rev. Joan Bell-Haynes.

Rev. Teresa “Terri” Hord Owens was elected as the General Minister and President on July 9, 2017. A Disciple since young adulthood, Hord Owens was dean of students at the University of Chicago Divinity School and pastor of First Christian Church of Downers Grove, IL prior to her election.
Hord Owens’ resume includes more than 20 years in corporate America leading diverse teams in data management before she entered seminary. For 15 years, she served as the dean of students at the University of Chicago Divinity School, shepherding a varied student body in both background and theology.
Hord Owens is widely sought after as a preacher, speaker and workshop facilitator. Her ministry and intellectual interests include a theology of reconciliation, cultural intelligence, developing inclusive and multi-cultural congregations, and the mentoring of youth and young adults. She is married to Walter Owens, Jr., with whom she celebrated 30 years of marriage prior to her election. They are the proud parents of an adult son, W. Mitchell Owens, III
Rev. Joan Bell-Haynes, the new Executive Regional Minister of the Central Rocky Mountain Region (April 2017), is a native of Macon, Georgia. She has more than 19 years of ordained ministry with the Christian Church (DOC) including local pastorates in Kansas City, MO, Hyattsville, MD and Reston, VA. She also served as Associate Regional Minister for the Christian Church Capital Area Region where she gave leadership to women, men and camp and conference ministries. She worked at Spirit House on Capitol Hill with founding director, Ruby Sales, a veteran civil rights leader.
Bell-Haynes is an alumna of the Disciples Divinity House, University of Chicago Divinity School and Albany State College, Albany, GA. Prior to her call to ministry she was Assistant Dean of Academics, College of Health Sciences, Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA.
Bell-Haynes, was the first person to become a member of Ray of Hope CC, Atlanta, GA (1986 DOC new church) with Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Hale. She is a Jesus lover and is devoted to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She has served all expressions of the church, including Lexington Theological Seminary, Week of Compassion, First Vice Moderator of the 2015 General Assembly, Christian Church Foundation, National Convocation, and Church Extension.
She is the widow of DOC church statesman, Oscar Haynes.
