A Charitable Gift Annuity is a planned giving instrument that enables a donor to receive a charitable tax deduction in the year of the gift; a life-time income stream where the amount is based on one’s age, with the remainder interest going to the church mission of your choice at the end of your life Journey. An example of this kind of planned giving opportunity is the following:
Let’s assume that Mrs. Harriet Smith is 79 years of age and has a $10,000 CD that is maturing and the new rate will be 2.5%. She could use additional income and would like to leave a gift to her church or the CRMR Foundation. By gifting the $10,000 to the Christian Church Foundation in return for a charitable gift annuity, she could receive an income tax deduction of $4,994.00, an annuity of 6.9% that would pay her $690.00 each year for the rest of her life, with $505.77 of that amount tax free until 2018. At the end of her life journey, the remainder interest would go to the church ministry of her choice.
If you would like to know more about how a Charitable Gift Annuity might be of benefit to you, please contact Jerry Lang through the CRMR Regional office at (303)561-1790.
He will need your name, date of birth and the amount of the gift annuity that you are considering. He will be able to give you the detailed information you will need in making such a gift.
